 Region 28 Team Parent

*Banner Parent. A banner reinforces the team spirit and is needed at the BEGINNING of the season so promptness is imperative. Once the team picks a name the parent should make it that week. The banner ideally is 5-6 feet long and 4-5 feet high and made of sturdy fabric. It can be attached to 1 inch PVC pipes running through the hems on the sides and top. Use large letters so it is readable across a field. Can include kids' names if wanted. Also need a way to secure it to the ground. One option is to have 2 iron stakes (one foot length) to pound into the ground (bring hammer each game) and put pipes over them.

* Picture Day Parent. Make sure everyone confirms they are coming and help organize the team on the day of the region photos. Schedule.

* Party Coordinator . End of year team party planner

The Team Parent helps to ease the workload of the team coach(es) by organizing team parents for the following tasks.

  • Host team meeting for coaches, players, and parents at the start of the season.
  • Prepare and distribute the team roster and snack list.
  • Pick up and distribute the team uniforms and return unused uniforms to the uniform coordinator.
  • Make sure the team shows up on time for Picture Day.
  • Pick up and return balls and cones for the team.
  • Find "net parents" to put up or take down nets when the team has the first or last game at the field.
  • Make team banner.
  • Be team "Web liason" to keep team informed about Region 28 website information. (www.ayso28.org)
  • Help the coach find additional people to help with practices.
  • Find somebody to coordinate season end activities.
  • For divisions that keep standings, report scores to division statistician
  • There is a website that allows you to order Team Parent Handbook and Software.  Several excerpts are shown here: http://teammom.net/excerpt.htm

Parents attending their players' games should be aware of the following:

No dogs on sidelines or school property

Most of our games are played on schools. Our permits with the district specifically prohibit bringing dogs onto school property, and bringing dogs onto school property during your child's game jeopardizes our permit in a city where fields are extremely limited.

Stay at least 1 yard off the field. The Laws of the Game require that all spectators be at least 1 yard off the field of play. Spectators standing on the touchline can inadvertently prevent a ball from going out of bounds, and are in danger of contact by the players or the assistant referees. For these reasons, please stay at least a yard off the touch line.

For your player. Typically coaches ask players to arrive 30 to 45 minutes before the beginning of the game for all divisions above U06. The purpose is to warm up the players to avoid injuries during play. Also be sure to bring liquid for your player (water, Gatorade, or other electrolyte replacement drink) since it's hot running around the field, even on a cool day. Don't forget sunscreen; players and parents alike can get burned even on cloudy days.
